ALISON SAMPSON
- AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR -
“Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.”
- George Orwell

Hi
I am an Australian author who lives in Perth, Western Australia.
I grew up on a farm in the Porongurup Ranges and later married and raised my children in the beautiful coastal town of Albany.
I have always wanted to write, and have done so, in various forms, since I was a teenager.
My first book was published in 2016. 'Shards of Ice' is a true crime story based on the life of a family friend who was convicted of murder in 2005, and is serving a life sentence in a maximum security prison. I spent 10 years communicating with him and writing his account of his crime. In his own words, he describes his childhood, his life as an methamphetamine addict and dealer, and the night he killed his girlfriend and ran from police.
His crime affected every person who knew him and his victim, and shattered our hometown. Families on both sides were torn to shreds.
I wrote his story because I believe that Australia needed to see how easily a life could be decimated by this drug. This book is a warning. This book is HIS truth. It is up to the reader to decide if he is to be believed.
It was the biggest writing challenge of my life and I learnt many things from its publication; about people in general, and about professionals - that both could disappoint and amaze.
'Shards of Ice' is now only available as an eBook - Please email me for enquiries.

Whats coming next

FROM WHEATFIELDS to HIGH HEELS is based on a true story.
"Perth was electric with change, everyone would have seen it and felt it.
Women were more visual and more vocal than they had ever been.
They were coming out of the shadows and into the light.
Society tried to control it, but they could not.
They tried to return it to what it had been before the war, but that was not possible.
Everyday life had changed forever."

OUT SOON!
"If you're going to have more than one person read your book, they're going to have totally different opinions and responses. No person - no two people - read the same book."
- Diana Gabaldon
